I thought that I ought to post at least something with today's date, since I just posted a comment on a blog and linked it to this blog, which could lead to a tiny remote possibility that someone will be curious and click on the link and come here only to find that the last post was to say I'm not dead and that was it. We can't have that, now, can we? That person would never come back. And then I'd be sad. So, I will get this out quickly, because I am swamped with work, and a bit distracted. It is Friday after all and the weather is, FINALLY, beautiful and springlike. I am going to cut and paste the story of the health crisis from an e-mail I sent to a friend. Then, next post, I will fill in a bit more detail and update and all that. Here goes: ******************* 1) DH and I take off work Thursday and Friday, March 15 and 16, as a long weekend because we have a concert to go to in Annapolis on Thursday night. Instead, the cramps I have been having, which I originally thought were hormonal, get much much worse and I stop having bms, which, as you know, is BAD. Off to emergency room on Thursday evening after dropping kids off at in-laws. 2) After a horrible night and half a day in the ER, I am whisked to OR for emergency surgery. X-ray and CAT scan showed adhesions and surgeon is very concerned about having to resect. Fortunately, it was just the two adhesions closing everything off, but nothing died, no resection, no ostomy. Surgery is Friday, I recover quickly and go home Monday. 3) Monday night, DH doesn't feel well. We realize he had pneumonia again. The last time this happened, it was a life-threatening situation, so DH goes to the ER early Monday morning. Mom comes over, but Mom has just had shoulder surgery and cannot drive or pick up kids. A friend comes over to help get the kids to day care. DH's pneumonia is diagnosed, but caught early so he is sent home with antibiotics Monday afternoon. 4) Over the next couple of weeks, we have various incidents of kids getting sick or B's day care provider getting sick. Whenever kids are home, mommy can't rest well, and whenever B is home, DH has to be home too because Mommy can't pick up kids! DH worries about being fired from missing so much work (but is being overly dramatic, and anyway he worked while he was home). 5) I think I will start working from home in week 3, but that doesn't happen because I develop a bad ear infection over the weekend resulting in a perforated eardrum. Ow ow ow. 6) Beginning of week 4, I go back to the surgeon fearing that I have a hernia. It looks like something is poking out of the incision, but thank G-d, it is just some extra tissue caused by an errant suture. Suture may have to be excised, but for now pseudo-normal life may resume. 7) Now it is Week 4, and I'm finally working again, sometimes at the office and sometimes home. Ear is still healing and I'll be going to an ENT. But we all feel good, finally. ***************************** There's a bit more--for several days after this I didn't feel well again, and even missed more work. It was either some sort of vitamin deficiency or a little bug we all caught because DH had some symptoms too and this kids had more sickness with one more pediatrician trip. But this week I felt great and went to the office!! The only remaining problem is the ear is still infected, but I started a new drug today and am crossing my fingers. If this doesn't do it, I'll have to have an actual procedure. I also find out Monday if that excising thing will take place. All right, I want to post this as is, and I'll be back to tell you more.
